MRI Centre

Sibu Specialist Medical Centre operates an open MRI scanner, Airis Vento 0.3T. Images of the soft-tissue structures of the body such as the spines, joints, brain and other organs - are clearer and more detailed than with other imaging methods. The detail of MRI images makes MRI an invaluable tool in various soft tissue injuries or diseases involving the spine and joints and also provide early diagnosis and evaluation of tumuors.

MRI also produces images in multiple planes (axial, coronal, sagittal and obliques) to enable more accurate detection of disease.

No radiation is used in MRI studies, thus it is safe to use in special population group, particularly children.

CT Scanning

Sibu Specialist Medical Centre performs CT scanning with a Toshiba Aquiliion 64. This is a "64 slice" CT scanner with additional features that facilitate scanning of the heart in what is known as "Coronary CT angiography"- a faster, less invasive way to examine the coronary arteries for certain individuals.

Unlike other imaging methods, CT scanning offers detailed views of wide range of tissue types, including the solid organs of the abdomen, lungs, bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels.

It is a relative cost-effective imaging tool for a wide range of clinical problems. They are useful in trauma settings as they can reveal internal injuries and bleeding quickly to help save lives.

Mammography Centre

Sibu Specialist Medical Centre operates a Toshiba Peruruwhich is fully imported from Japan.

Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system and high-contrast, high-resolution film for examination of the breasts.

The breast is exposed to a small amount of radiation to produce an image of internal breast tissue. The image of the breast is produced as a result of some of the x-rays being absorbed while others pass through the breast to expose to film.

Bone Densitometry

Bone Densitometry is a simple, painless, non-invasive test that takes about 15 minutes. A DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) scanner is used to provide information regarding your bone mineral density (BMD). By comparing your test results to a local database, healthcare providers can estimate bone strength and predict the risk for fractures.

DEXA is most often used to diagnose osteoporosis, a condition that often affects women after menopause but may also be found in men.

Sibu Specialist Medical Centre operates a Toshiba Xario XG Premium Ultrasound system.

With recent technological advancement, ultrasound imaging has evolved significantly to be effective screening and diagnostic tool for wide range of human tissues and diseases involving the neck, breasts, abdominal organs, heart, skin, muscles, tendons, scrotums and blood vessels. As ultrasound scans are relatively cheap, harmless, fast and sensitive, it is often the first line diagnostic investigation for various pathological conditions.

X-Ray Services

Sibu Specialist Medical Centre operates a general X-ray model Toshiba KXO-15R/ZI . This is an analogue system. Coming soon we're going to transform to the Computed Radiography.

An x-ray (radiograph) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Imaging with x-rays involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. X-rays are the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging.

Stress Test

A stress test can be used to test for heart disease. Stress tests are tests performed by a doctor and/or trained technician to determine the amount of stress that your heart can manage before developing either an abnormal rhythm or evidence of ischemia (not enough blood flow to the heart muscle). The most commonly performed stress test is the exercise stress test.

Why Do I Need a Stress Test?

Your doctor uses the stress test to:

  • Determine if there is adequate blood flow to your heart during increasing levels of activity.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of your heart medications to control angina and ischemia.
  • Determine the likelihood of having coronary heart disease and the need for further evaluation.
  • Check the effectiveness of procedures done to improve blood flow within the heart vessels in people with coronary heart disease.
  • Identify abnormal heart rhythms.
  • Help you develop a safe exercise program.
